My name is Dr. Ravleen Boparai. I live in Virginia, USA, with my husband and 2 kids. I have completed my bachelor’s in dental surgery in 2013 from India and afterward moved to the United States of America. I have cleared National Dental Board Examinations in 2014 and 2017 and currently enrolled in masters in healthcare administration program (graduating in July 2021) at George Mason University, Virginia, USA. I am also working as a volunteer in the emergency department of Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
After moving to the USA, I faced various challenges as encountered by many other dentists who come to the USA such as clearing the licensing exams, culture change, accommodation issues, pressure to perform, and many more. I was keen to get admission in dental school but because of high competition, first I had to build up my profile. So, I worked hard and cleared my NBDE exams, I did observe ship under various dentists and after getting familiar with the work environment, I was able to work as a dental assistant. Now, after completing my masters, I will be able to apply again in dental schools with strong profile and hopefully will get admission in reputable dental school.
My short-term goal is to get admission to dental school and attain DDS degree so that I can practice as a dentist in the USA. My long-term goal is to open dental practices in underserved areas where people can get free services. I would also like to help dentists who come from different countries and face challenges in the USA, especially obtaining experience. My hobbies are writing, reading, and exploring new places. Writing and reading are like stress busters to me. I love to spend time with my kids, reading storybooks and playing with them.
