The mind of patient (patient’s psychological attitude towards dentistry) is almost entirely ignored by dentist who is well trained to treat teeth. There is a little or no training to recognize dental anxiety.  Ignoring the presence of dental fear provokes many negative responses from the patient. Apprehensive patients do in fact have a lowered pain reaction threshold. Pain and anxiety are closely associated. Pain is a source of anxiety. Anxiety is a factor that increases pain, and increased pain rouses further anxiety. Pain and anxiety are the established causes for postponement or reluctance to seek dental treatment by patient. Heightened anxiety can develop into stress related emergency in the patient. Ignoring fear and anxiety increases the frustration and stress of the dentist. When anxiety is reduced or eliminated, patient’s subjective experience of pain declines significantly. One of the methods to manage dental anxiety is Inhalational sedation. It is effective and safe to use with rapid onset and almost instant reversal making it most favorable choice of psychosedation available today.
